Riding in a model a is a death experience to begin with . Had a south wind gasoline heater set my pants on fire if you're thumming a ride hide if you see one 🎉😅

I love your Model A coverage! My grandpa’s 2nd car was a Model A, which he drove from Denver to Golden daily. Flat tires were so common in those days, seldom a week went by without having to patch an inner tube, for multiple flats often occurred. He liked the A so much that he bought nothing but Fords his whole life.

6:20 I think other manufacturers had A like controls prior to the A particularly with pedals and H pattern shifters. Interesting later makers like Willys used the transverse front spring and Buick the torque tube after WW2.

What are your views on torquing when engine is warm ( maybe 140 )

I am looking to purchase this harness but noted that on Brattons website they mention 2 problems with this harness. I saw that it looked like you had an issue closing the bail when you put the cover on. Brattons states that the wire disc is too thick and will need to be thinned .035, the other is that the “off” detents are .017 too deep and need to be tapered. Did you encounter these problems? Not sure I can be that precise in addressing the issues. Suggestions?

Excellent information!!!! My grandma actually had to do this with my grandpa, but in a very large class A diesel pusher motor home. He had a fatal heart attack on the interstate. She had to get out of her seat, go up a step, over to his side, down a step, and all she dove under his feet to hold the brake down. A miracle of God that they didn't hit anything because they went over the median, onto oncoming traffic, and into the ditch. But the way you just taught it can definitely save a lot of lives!!!! I bet you could get one of those cushioned rubbery floor mats at Staples, cut it into a strip with a small hole for the step and protect that fender.👍 then just tuck it inside when not in use!👌

When I saw this vdo pop up I thought... easy, slam on the E Brake. But you're completely correct, locking down the E Brake only makes things worse. Also, why I'm not in favor of adjusting the brakes as advised 90 years ago; where the rear tires lock up first. I adjust mine where they all lock up at same time, and if they do lock I back off the pedal. Keep making the great videos you two are known for. From Texas. Et

In 1973 my dad and our family including a girlfriend of mine went to Hershey To the old car show.. I was 17 and my dad had a love for a models and wanted a 1931 roadster. We took the Winnebago and left home for 6 days. It was a great trip but dad didn’t get a car. They were sooo expensive. We actually saw a new 31 in a showroom of an original ford dealer. It was still new, never sold. It was in a place called Bird in the hand Pennsylvania. Anyway dad couldn’t afford a roadster so we came home. A couple years later dad found a 1930 5 window coupe and he loved it. At 19 years old, I loved driving it as well. As you know life goes by and I got married and started having kids. My love for “As” never left me but I had a few corvettes and a couple Dodge Vipers but I never lost my love for {original} As. Well, I turned 67 last year and I figured if I was ever going to have my true love, I better find her. I did. Thanksgiving my wife and I drove to Arlington Texas and bought a 1931 roadster. It’s a real good original car that has been loved all it’s life. It spent 95 percent of its life in Missoula Montana. I’ve changed several things for safety purposes and changed the things that were important to the integrity of the car. Now we drive it almost every evening, weather permitting and love it. I still live in my hometown of Dalton Ga. It’s just 15 miles south of Chattanooga Tenn and cool evenings out to dinner is our favorite pastime. I don’t have enough time to tell you all of my blessings from God and if I did have time, I don’t know all of them. My wife and I have 9 grandkids and we still camp,boat,ride motorcycles, go jeeping in the mud. Again,,,blessed. Most of all, every time I hear that 4 cyl Henry Ford sound, it takes me back to the crossroads of my memory of dad. I never start it up without remembering his smile every time he drove his old 30. This September I’ll be driving our diesel pusher Motorhome pulling the enclosed trailer with our 31 roadster to The Gilmore Museum for A Model days. My dad will be going too, even though he died 16 years ago. To tell you truth, there isn’t enough money to buy my car. Danny W Sane

My undergraduate degree is in film. The fact that there's no driver's side door on a Model T suddenly explains why in some films of the 1930s, the driver enters a car on the passenger side. Geared to an audience that would immediately understand this approach as old fashioned, yet foreign to those of us born later, I am suddenly delighted to be "in the know." A film title doesn't comes to mind at the moment. When one does, or I see this happen in the future, I am going to come back here and comment again!

Never thought about a medical emergency in the car with somebody next to me. Had a job years ago delivering blueprints. Company car. Cap on jug of ammonia in back of car got loose and ammonia vapors filled the car. Was just pulling into big business park where I needed to go. When I got a whiff of the ammonia I thought I could hold my breath. It didn't work that way. I needed to get the car over to the side and ignition off so I could bail out before I passed out. Made it happen but when things happen ... it happens quick. Great video for having a plan ahead of time.

Paul I have a question for you about the radiator. My 1930 coupe has a good radiator, however the fill neck is messed up. Someone put an extra set of groves in and it is short. With my radiator shell in place there is only about 1/8 or less sticking above. This in turn does not allow the cap to get a good seal. Every so often I have a spotty windshield because coolant is leaking out by the cap and spraying on my windshield and shell. Are there radiator shops that could weld a new brass neck or should I get a new radiator. Btw I’m praying for the people of Ruidoso and several people from my club are going to NM yo do a smaller tour. I’m the one that sent you a picture of my car with my parents in it. Great idea for a video! I remember when we were kids the fun thing to do was slowly pull the choke rod out with our 2 big tows while riding shotgun. The poor driver never could figure out why their Model A was running so bad. Eventually we had to finally confess and boy were they mad. Seriously though these Model A's with Weber carbs and electric fuel pumps can be, and have been deadly when someone passes out and crashes into a tree or something.

When using the dry wash it works better to spray the cloth when working around the hood louvers. If you spray the louvers the spray goes through and makes a mess on the engine and other places under the hood.

From a wife who is content to enjoy our A from the passenger’s seat, this video was great! Hope it gets widely viewed!

Paul, this is a great short video! But, let's take this one step further. Now, you have a patient who has probably gone to get medical attention and the passenger riding with that person is now in a car they don't know how to drive. I am a huge proponent of the necessity for all adults who ride in Model A's know how to drive a Model A. This is the big reason I run The Model A Driving Experience every year during Model A Days at The Museum. 😊

I would add to apply the parking brake after the car is shut down. You don't need the car rolling while you're addressing the medical emergency.

This happened to me while my father was driving a couple of weekends ago. My father completely forgot he was driving!!! He took the mobile phone and completely forgot he was in a car! I grabbed the wheel and pulled to the right on the motorway in Madrid, Spain. My father regained his memory after one minute, or so... he is forgetting things and I tried to convince him to go to the doctor and check with a neurologist. He didn't want to go because he doesn't want to be banned from driving... he's getting old and he's not getting any better.
